Here's a well known boot ("Take It Or Leave It"), from the legendary but short lived Manchester Punk / New Wave Venue, the Electric Circus. A disused cinema in Collyhurst, a not too nice part of town (& it still ain't !!) that saw the likes of The Pistols, Jam, Clash, Buzzcocks, Joy Division, Magazine, Drones, Fall, Slaughter & the Dogs, John Cooper Clarke & many more play. Loads of footage shot there is available on "The Way They Were" Granada TV compilation. Here's a '77 Clash set, with The Pistols (1976) to follow...
For Martin...
Vintage Clash!!! Thank You Mr. Ska!
ReplyDeleteThanx mate,is this the gig with ginger Hucknall in the mosh pit? christ what happened to his musical direction? i was watching my sound of the seventies punk vid only last nite, the pure power of the clash can never be surpassed.
ReplyDeleteThank you very very much !!
ReplyDeleteClash are always welcome.
Yeah this is the Circus gig filmed by Granada TV with clips on "The Way They Were" including that fat ginger rag Hucknall...
ReplyDeleteNah, Granada didn't film this gig. The footage shown on 'So It Goes' was recorded 6 months after this gig, & it was filmed at The Elizabethan Ballroom, Belle View. Apparently, the copper knob wasn't Hucknall, either - that's supposed to be a folk myth.
ReplyDeletePS - Cheers for the download, Bertie ;-)
