Welcome To My Blog

Thanks for checking the blog out... Hope it offers something a bit different every now & again. Though I come from a pseudo - Mod background (Soul & Ska in particular), I have a diverse taste in music & hope my varied posts will reflect this.

Cheers Skamanc .... I'm not after your undying gratitude, but please leave your thoughts, comments & opinions on the posts & content. I regularly up- & download material, plus buy and trade items. As such, if I have inadvertently "trodden on anyone's toes" in posting anything then please let me know & accept my apologies. Also please support the artists involved & remember that the blog is merely a pointer toward these various downloads, which are stored elsewhere. Legally, any downloads should not be retained for more than a week. So now I've told you the legal bit !

FREE : BBC Sessions (1968 -1970) aka Free Climbing

L-R Kossoff, Rodgers, Fraser & Kirke.

Further treasures from the BBC vaults... Here's several sessions by FREE, dating from between 1968 + 1970, covering the "Tons Of Sobs", "Free", "Fire and Water" and "Highway" album material. I still have loads of Free boots on cassette from their Appreciation Society, run by a great lad in Nottingham called David Clayton. (He produces an excellent magazine also).

I've managed to find already digitalised (is that a word??) versions, so have edited them into one file along with artwork and reuploaded them via Rapidshite. I've just done this as a CD for in the car - takes me back years to when I was regularly doing a West London - Derby - Manchester trip every week or so in my old Granada.

These are clips from a Granada TV show called "Doing Their Thing", filmed live in Manchester, 1970. My youngest Uncle swears he was there - still can't see you Tim !!

SUGGS : Desert Island Discs (Radio Show) 19/5/02

Blurb below from the Beeb Web Site :

Suggs made his name as front man of 80s pop phenomenon Madness and impressed a whole generation with his unique style of singing, silly dancing and fondness for making the mundane the subject of his songs, such as Baggy Trousers, inspired by memories of school.

Although his cockney accent is part of his singing style, he was actually born in Hastings and moved to London as a child. His singer mother was perhaps a subconscious inspiration, but Suggs didn't have any particular ambitions in his teens. He dropped out of school and did what a lot of teenage boys do - formed a band with his friends.

Madness, a seven-piece gang of friends, became a huge success. Their first single The Prince went to Number 16 in 1979 and three years later they had a Number 1 with House of Fun. In seven years they had 20 singles in the top 20 UK chart and travelled the world playing to large audiences.

Now Madness occasionally meet up and play their hits list, and Suggs has launched a successful solo career and is also working in TV: hosting Night Fever on Channel 5 and captaining a team on BBC1's A Question of Pop.

If Suggs could take just one record it would be No 6, Peggy Lee singing Is That All There Is?.

His book, apart from The Bible and the Complete Works of Shakespeare, would be a concise book of Italian verbs.

His luxury would be a nucleus of bees.

A quick note for overseas visitors - Desert Island Discs is a long running (since 1942!) BBC Radio Show. Every guest can choose 8 records, a book and a luxury item.

THE VIBRATORS : V2 (1978)

With thanks to Martin... here's more Vibrators.

FREE : Isle Of Wight Festival 30/8/70 & Santa Monica 1971

Sheer class : Free at the Isle of Wight, 1970. (File also includes a Radio Broadcast from Stockholm 12/12/70). Amazing players - these performances are excellent, even more so when you consider that they were all in their late teens !!! Paul Rodgers is now sadly touring with Queen (!), though he remains one of the greatest English Rock singers.

A further gig excerpt, this time from the States in 1971 is also included, often bootlegged as "Rock Me Stealer". Download these & enjoy...

For the late Paul Kossoff (lead guitarist).

CHAMELEONS VOX : Manchester Gigs 2009 - 10

Thanks, as always to Phil for these cracking files. Please leave a comment or two for him...
I was delighted to receive these this afternoon, especially as I was going to the Band On The Wall gig until last minute circumstances dictated otherwise....

PS I realise The Witchwood is in Ashton under Lyne, which is in Tameside as opposed to Manchester - just mentioned this as someone was otherwise bound to e-mail in about it...lol

THE JAM : Brighton Centre 11/12/82 (Farewell Performance)

I roiginally posted this as a sharecode along with several others for Farewell Tour gigs in the early days of the blog. Brand new (working !!) sharecode posted 17/2/11.

All tracks labelled & presented in MP3 (ignore the FLAC details on the sleeve - too large to upload sensibly!!)
Thanks to Phil for sending me the artwork and, as always, respect to the original bootleggers.

Sadly no footage exists of this gig... Instead here's a couple of tracks from Paris. Both always meant a great deal to me, especially "But I'm Different Now"...

GOD... must just add one of my favourites..."Private Hell"...

& in conclusion, we'll employ a double negative & end with "Start"...  Can't get over the quality of the USA footage (1980) of "Start" & "...Hell"
