Welcome To My Blog

Thanks for checking the blog out... Hope it offers something a bit different every now & again. Though I come from a pseudo - Mod background (Soul & Ska in particular), I have a diverse taste in music & hope my varied posts will reflect this.

Cheers Skamanc .... I'm not after your undying gratitude, but please leave your thoughts, comments & opinions on the posts & content. I regularly up- & download material, plus buy and trade items. As such, if I have inadvertently "trodden on anyone's toes" in posting anything then please let me know & accept my apologies. Also please support the artists involved & remember that the blog is merely a pointer toward these various downloads, which are stored elsewhere. Legally, any downloads should not be retained for more than a week. So now I've told you the legal bit !

SUGGS, Chris Evans Breakfast Show, 22/2/13

An old piccy I know but anyway...

Here's Suggs, as heard on Chris Evan's Breakfast Show yesterday. Many thanks to old blog friend & contributor Deco McDermott for sending this in so quickly...

ST PAULI AFFAIRS

Courtesy of Jonny, here's an interesting compilation of German film scores.... Dedicated to our dear blog friend Herr Pauli...

Hamburg's Reeperbahn runs some 600 meters through St. Pauli's famously smut-tastic red-light district -- accordingly, the music compiled on St. Pauli Affairs is deliciously sleazy stuff; originating from the low-budget stag films produced in the district between 1967 and 1972.

Comparable to the Vampyros Lesbos comps as well as the more civic-minded German easy and sound library recordings of the same period, the disc focuses on funky, fuzzed-out instrumentals with infinitely more passion and soul than American porn soundtracks could ever muster: the bass is thick, the drums are tight and the guitars squeal more than the films' stars. Highlights include Peter Thomas' "Lesische Nummer," Barry Lippman's "Beat in Steel" and Orchester Frank Valdor's "Black Market."

Slow Progress...

OK.... The list of re-uploads is growing. I haven't yet altered any posts to include the new sharecodes, as its probably quicker for you (& me) to browse the folders on my Rapidshare & download as few or as many files as you want.

The most recent posts have been re-upped, including : Carolina Funk, The Impressions A & B Sides, Johnny Marr & friends, Stooges Jukebox & Madness Los Angeles Palace 1984.

Use the url/s in the post below to log into my Rapidshare & have a good look through the files / folders.

A very popular series was / is the Blue Beat 45s - all 25 (!) volumes are now available to download - a complete history of genuine Caribbean Ska !!!

I will regularly update everyone with progress posts like this...

All the best, in a bit, Skamanc, Feb '13.

The Blog Strikes Back.....

I am now in the process of re-uploading 1000s of files from my Hard Disc Drives, following the sudden & surprising closure of my Rapidshare account last week.

In the absence of any more reliable provider, I am using them again, for better or for worse....

All my files (and folders) on Rapidshare are public, i.e. blog visitors can view the folders (and the files within) and can download anything they choose. The only restriction I have kept is to not allow uploads other than my own. The url's for the 3 files are as follows :

http://rapidshare.com/users/blogfiles/12410 (Skamanc folder)

http://rapidshare.com/users/blogfiles/2800 (Northern Soul / related)

http://rapidshare.com/users/blogfiles/9098 (HH Fender Jazz - my other blog)

So, log on, have a browse & download as much or as little as you want...

New uploads are going on daily so keep checking back for new stuff...

The Blog Is Dead... Long Live The Blog...

As manu of you will now be aware, every file you click on is now marked illegal. This is because Rapidshare have decided that I have contravened copyright, and closed down my account, in the process destroying just over 3 1/2 years of accrued / saved files & sharecodes. I have appealed, though with no joy. The rotten feckers....

I have left this a few days as I was debating the best course of action, given that I need to move home very quickly as things have deteriorated so badly on the home &  financial fronts.

After much thought, all I can do is keep the blog going, though you will need to bear with me for a while. I have started to re-upload some material, though obviously,. 3+ years of music is a massive undertaking. 95% of the files are safe on my hard drive(s) though they will onviously need to be gradually reuploaded again.

I may consider reuploading some of the more popular downloads first, as well as bringing in new files not sen on the blog before. Any help will be gratefully received....

Bless you all, Skamanc, Jan 2013.

Rapidshare is Sorted... Downloading Available Again...

Who likes my new M65??

Finally... Rapidshare is sorted & all my files are again available to be downloaded by you lucky lot.

This was a long process, involving the setting of user aliases, plus privilege changes, sub folders +++ though I got there in the end with the help of a very useful lad in their User Support Dept. Thanks mate !

All files can be downloaded, and all my blog files can be viewed via the following direct URL :

http://rapidshare.com/users/skamanc/14998

This is a good way to go if you're after a lot of files - several can be downloaded simultaneously (if your connection speed is good enough) & you won't need to keep clicking between pages / posts on the blog.

Most are arranged alphabetically (by artist then title) though a few have slipped through the net & are a bit random.

All downloads will count towards my Rapids total, which means I can continue to enjoy free storage of these files. So, do yourself ( & me) a favour & get downloading...

Technical Hassle

I've just e-mailed support at Rapidshare due to the ongoing problem loads of you are experiencing when trying to download stuff from the blog. I hope to be able to post some good news by weekend.... All the best & wrap up (the snow is coming back to Manchester this afternoon!!), Skamanc.

CAROLINA FUNK 1968 - 1977

Yeah... the blog is 3 years old today...Thanks to everyone who has helped out technically, logged in, downloaded, left a comment / message, befriended me & sent in material. You all know who you are...

Love Skamanc

PS...The freeloaders out there can all fuck off.....

Great collection of soul / funk from the States of North & South Carolina, dated 1968 - 1977. Some excellent material on here - nobody is what you might call a household name, though these guys were no doubt massive on the College & support circuits back in the day. One is unreleased and the rest is made up of old master tapes and some rare vinyl. Occasionally parts grate on you...James Brown & Aretha "steals" like "Do right..." and "Take it to the bridge..." but a top collection of period soul / funk all the same that is well worth the download...

Thanks & luv to Steve & Cheryl - both have been 110% rocks during a difficult period...

Rapidshare...

Just finished uploading some new files ready for the blog's 3rd anniversary tomorrow....

Another recent format change on Rapidshare... this means I'm having problems getting the sharecodes off the saved files in my file manager... tried everything without success...

Anyone have any ideas how to get the sharecode / url off a saved file ??

Otherwise there'll be no new posts...

Thanks, Skamanc.

PS : Just added a new browser to the computer & all is well. Fast(ish) connection again & rapidshare is working properly as it always did previously. Strange that it needed Google Chrome to do this but anyway... The new posts are now ready to go on tomorrow for the 3rd anniversary of the blog.

PPS Apologies for the "Mr Sweary" outburst this morning - things seem to get on top of me at the moment...
