Andy Coulter does it again !! I know from comments and e-mails that this is eagerly awaited by a lot of you out there in blogland. So without further ado, here's Madness in Los Angeles...

MADNESS : House of Blues, Las Vegas, Nevada, 14/4/12

Another great Nutty boot from Andy C's great collection.... This is the recent House of Blues gig from Las Vegas. Obituary : Donald "Duck" Dunn

Donald "Duck" Dunn, November 24th 1941 - May 13th 2012.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1941, Dunn began playing bass in the late 1950s having decided that the guitar was too difficult : "I tried the guitar but it had two strings too many" he was quoted. "It was too complicated man !!"

An early player of the Fender bass range (typically a Precision though occasionally a Jazz), Dunn joined Stax records in 1964 with colleagues Booker T Jones,the late Al Jackson Jr and; Steve Cropper forming Booker T and The MG's (Memphis Group). In later years he endorsed the Lakland bass range (pic below), with his own signature model.

Here they became the world's premier backing group, recording and playing live shows with  US soul legends, including Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Sam + Dave, Carla Thomas

and Eddie Floyd.

His deceptively simple bass lines (just you try playing them !!) underpinned hit after hit record and he became a major influence on generations of aspirant bass players, myself included.

He was later known for his appearances in the Blues Brothers bands and films, where he spoke a line that summed up his work with the MG's :

"We had a band powerful enough to turn goat piss into gasoline".

Up Yours Taggart No 13...

Regular visitors will have seen previous "Up Yours Taggarts"... this commemorative edition is re-allocated No 13, as it is the time (in seconds) that the Rags thought they were Champions this afternoon...Unlucky for some, not so unlucky for others !!!

Better luck next time Taggart...

Dedicated to our last title - winning side from 1968. Three players (Neil Young, Mike Doyle & George Heslop), plus trainer Dave Ewing are no longer with us. Likewise Managers Joe Mercer & Malcolm Allison. Great to see Mrs Mercer at the game, plus Franny Lee, Mike Summerbee & Tony "Skip" Book.

SOFT MACHINE : Roundhouse 7/2/71

Good quality recording from the Roundhouse, Feb 1971, with a great tracklisting.. This has been due for posting for a while now, though I've just converted it to MP3 and got round to sorting out a new Sharecode.


This again features the Hopper, Wyatt, Ratledge & Dean quintet.
