The Prisoners & Beyond Part (6) : Medway Powerhouse
A quick repost for the Medway Powerhouse compilation series, as they're an integral part of the Prisoners / Medway discography.
Impossibly rare three volume vinyl only series, featuring the talents of not only The Prisoners & The Milkshakes, but also a whole host of lesser known Medway bands.
Some great tunes on here... download & enjoy !!

Portishead & Pulp : Third / We Love Life
I received these on a data dvd from Joanne, who thought I might be interested in posting them. (Thanks Joanne !).
I already have the first two Portishead albums which are excellent, though had not actually heard this one. Likewise, I rate Jarvis Cocker very highly as a songwriter, though was never what could be decribed as a Pulp fan.
Some good stuff to be found here though for the visitor with an open mind...

The Prisoners & Beyond Part (5) : Fay Hallam Trinity & Speakeasy
More material from the ex-Mrs Day, former Prime Mover & erstwhile Makin' Time front person Fay Hallam.
First up is the Fay Hallam Trinity "Realm" album, followed by the "We Live To Shine" single with three tracksand the "Toe Rag Sessions" by Speakeasy. All tracks are on the one file.
This was a collaboration arranged by Biff Bang Pow records, including Hallam, Mike Evans (The Action bassist), drummer Buddy Ascott (The Chords & Pope), guitarist Simon Stebbing (The Purple Hearts) & vocalist Mark Le Gallez (The Risk).
A collectable curio for sure...
Thanks to Gord for archive material!!

Beth Orton...
Elizabeth Caroline Orton, commonly known as Beth Orton, (born 14 December 1970), is a BRIT Award–winning English singer-songwriter. Known for her "folktronica" sound, which mixes elements of folk and electronica, she was initially recognised for her collaborations with William Orbit and the Chemical Brothers in the mid 1990s — but these were not Orton's first recordings. She released a solo album, Superpinkymandy, in 1993. Since the album was only released in Japan, it went largely unnoticed by international audiences. Her second solo album, Trailer Park, garnered much critical acclaim in 1996. With the release of the albums Central Reservation (1999) and the 2002 UK top 10 album, Daybreaker, Beth developed a devoted audience. On her 2006 release, Comfort of Strangers, she has moved towards a more folk-based sound and away from the electronic sound of past albums.
(Thank God for wikipaedia, "copy" & "paste"...LOL)
Here is a selection of Orton albums.... some very good material on these.

Joy Division : Warsaw
Joy Division Preston Warehouse 28/2/80
One of the best known Joy Division Bootlegs, recorded by an audience member at the Warehouse, Preston, february 28th 1980.
Not a technically acomplished recording by any stretch, though a valuable document of a seminal band at the peak of their powers.

Joy Division : 1979 Peel Sessions
Two Peel Sessions (January & November 1979) from the unique Joy Division, one of the finest Manchester bands ever. (OK, two were from Salford & 2 from Macclesfield, but...)
Interesting track listing, with singles, LP tracks & live favourites. For me, the highlight is the version of "Exercise One", that pisses all over the later album track.
If they're new to you, download these sessions & see what you think. I'd be interested in any comments... The already initiated will know where I'm coming from !
More Joy Division to follow soon, including the complete "Warsaw" 'album' and the classic Preston 1980 bootleg...

SHARECODES REMOVED @ REQUEST OF DETOUR RECORDS
Heavyweight Sound : Blood and Fire DUB Samplers
Peter Tosh : Bush Doctor
A great album from Peter Tosh, who, for me at least, was the major talent within the Wailers. (Shite - can feel the complaints coming in already...).
Only complaint is the slightly too liberal use of the Clavinet... it was 1978 though I suppose !
Comments etc welcome...

"Incendiary Rhythm & Soul from Makin' Time. The first ever CD release of The Charlatans' Matin Blunt's debut recordings".
